The thing I need to easily add an aux input to the stock stereo in the S10 isn’t produced anymore .

Kinja'd!!!

I really don’t want to change out the OEM radio because it’s in amazing shape and works well but I also really don’t want to use an FM transmitter.

There are other things out there that will do it, but I need an external tape or CD player to make it work, which I don’t have.

I can't believe some old guy didn't hoard 300 of these things and isn't selling them on eBay now.

It’s somewhat likely that it’s just a wire converter; i.e. the analoge signal from your phone/mp3/whatever goes directly into three of the pins on the back of your stereo. A little (tiny) bit of soldering or wire splicing should abnegate any need for an adapter.

What you want is a line out converter. They may be tricky to find in store unless you have a car audio dealer nearby, but can easily be had online.

What about a universal kit, not as easy to add but still seamless if done right.

That one’s for a 12 pin connector radio (2003-2007 I think) mines a 9 pin.

Amazon has what you need, I think. Search GM auxiliary converter, I see a 9 pin by a company called Pac.

Unless I'm reading something wrong, the radio needs to be tricked into thinking there's an external tape or CD player to let you even select aux on the radio. The adapter does that.

That’s the one that requires you to have an external tape or cd changer. Of course it’s still being produced but the one that doesn’t require that isnt.

Most likely, it shorts out one of the pins to ground. That’s usually how electronics like that detect a device is plugged in. Unfortunately, without schematics, it could be very difficult to figure out which pin that is. Do you happen to know the model of your radio? I might be able to look it up.

(by the way, I’m an electronics tech. Car radio install/repair is one of the hats I wear. I also do a lot of bodging.)

I don’t know the model number but it looks identical to this:

Kinja'd!!!

It’s in a 2002 S10 if that helps.

There are FM modulators you can get that plug in between your radio and antenna cord, which give you an aux cord that works kinda like an FM transmitter except hardwired. But I’m cheap, and there’s one review on Amazon where the guy claims it set his car on fire, so I never bothered to get one.

I can’t stand the look of the aftermarket stereos available; none of them match the aesthetics of my MJ. What I was able to do was pull the nfg tape deck out of the radio, and wire in an aux cable directly to where it hooked up. The radio does tend to bleed through which is annoying, but where I live there are only a handful of stations so I just tune to nothingness. Works well enough for now I guess.

>stock stereo

but why. If you give even half a shit about what enters your ear holes why would you use a stock radio with no equalization, high/low/band pass filters, loudness, MP3 CD, USB, etc. options? There are plenty of options that will get far superior audio quality out of your stock speakers while still retaining an OEM-like appearance.

- Nice, not $350 1.5 din stereos are hard as fuck to find and single dins in a not single din slot look like ass. Refuse to do that.

- Currently the stock stereo sounds just fine to me. I can adjust bass and treble and that’s all I really need.

Burn some CDs, buddy. Sounds better than an aux input anyways.
